PROJECTS / RESIDENTIAL / Grove Residence Two
Timeless and functional was the brief for this grand Victorian home (home to a family of six). The client request was for the aesthetic to be classic with an elegant palette. White gloss, Carrara marble, dark woods and copper tones bring a casual elegence to the interior designed with a focus on entertaining. This materials palette has been taken throughout the house for a consistent backdrop to the family’s living spaces. The kitchen/meals area is a modern space that easily flows into the living and dining area. The kitchen zone fades into the background thanks to a large expanse of white cabinetry with minimal detail that provides a simple backdrop. A three-metre island bench and splashback in marble are an elegant visual that define the kitchen, while a two-metre long dining table in the foreground adds that casual feel the clients requested. The kitchen is packed with storage, including a butler’s pantry, so that it works hard behind the serene scene. Playing down the elegant and casual feel are surprise elements, such as the integration of a sideboard at the end of the kitchen where a textural Japanese wallpaper and warm timber veneer adds a soft, warm quality to the marble and white kitchen. This aesthetic carries through into the home’s bathroom where, again, clever storage is a feature to ensure the area works efficiently for everyday practicalities as well as address wellbeing and relaxation. White tones, textural tiling and darker woods are a feature of the bathroom while wallpaper brings in an element of luxury and femininity. Custom detailing and furnishings such as floor rugs, lighting and dining setting by Doherty Lynch complete the overall look.
