With its design origins firmly steeped in that of a traditional corner store, this building required a contemporary fit-out to create a cafe in line with the owner’s brief. Its location informed both the interiors and the branding, while Doherty Lynch gave considerable focus to creating a modern corner shop identity. A narrow, rectangular shape, the brief was to create a bright, busy interior with clear circulation paths. Doherty Lynch has used plywood and black joinery to create a strong contrast and to highlight the forms in the design. Bright-coloured acrylic boxes, colourful upholstery and the furniture itself are used to create interest and to create a busy feel in the space. A large communal ply table was designed specifically for the cafe and runs parallel with an unusually shaped counter.
